A place entry answers one question about one place. A guide answers the questions that come before it, the ones that decide whether the trip works at all.
The original Guide famously summed up an entire planet in two words. These go into slightly more detail, because "mostly harmless" is not much use when you are standing at a gate at eight in the morning with a dog in the boot.
A place entry in this guide is deliberately narrow. It tells you the rule at one beach, one track or one beer garden, who set that rule and when somebody last read it. What it cannot tell you is the pattern: why the rule is usually that way, what changes it, and which question to ask before you commit to a three hour drive.
That is what a guide is for. Each one is built from the same checked entries the directory uses, and it links to every place it names so you can go and read the policy for yourself.
