The rules, in short
Before you go
Dogs are welcome on all camping and caravan sites, and in a selection of Classic Open Plan Cabins that must be booked direct by phone rather than online. Up to two pets per site or cabin, with more by arrangement with the park. A $25 cabin cleaning fee applies to pet friendly cabins and is charged on arrival. Pets must never be left alone in a cabin or on a site at any time, must stay off park owned bedding and furniture, and are not permitted inside non pet friendly accommodation. Dogs are allowed on cabin balconies. Pets must not enter communal buildings such as the amenities block or camp kitchen, with registered assistance dogs the exception.
Pets should be on a lead at all times whenever they are outside the cabin, van or tent, for the comfort of other guests.

Worth knowing before you arrive
- Tasmania's national parks and most reserves ban dogs outright, so Freycinet and similar parks are off the list.
- Bay of Fires Conservation Area allows dogs on lead in some areas only, with seasonal restrictions. Check the Break O'Day Council dog zone map before you go.
- Dogs entering Tasmania are subject to Biosecurity Tasmania entry conditions, including hydatid tapeworm treatment. Confirm current requirements before you sail or fly.
- Pets cannot be left alone at all, so plan any dog free outings around someone staying with them.
About BIG4 Tassie Getaway Parks St Helens
This park sits on the edge of St Helens, the main town on Tasmania's north east coast and the gateway to the Bay of Fires. Dogs are welcome on every powered and unpowered site, and a limited number of Classic Open Plan Cabins are set aside for guests travelling with a pet. Those cabins are deliberately held back from the online booking system, so you need to ring the park and ask for one. Dogs may sit out on a cabin balcony, but they cannot be left alone in the cabin while you head off exploring.Which dogs it suits
