Before you go
Dogs are permitted in certain areas of Kings Park on a lead no longer than two metres. They are not permitted within ten metres of any playground, on the elevated section of the Lotterywest Federation Walkway, inside Rio Tinto Naturescape Kings Park, or at events such as Australia Day, New Year's Eve and Anzac Day. Owners must clean up after their dog and must bring their own waste bags, because the park does not supply them. Service dogs are exempt from these restrictions and are permitted in the areas where pet dogs are not.
Lead of two metres or less at all times. There is no off leash area within Kings Park, and several named zones are closed to pet dogs entirely.

Worth knowing before you arrive
- Rio Tinto Naturescape and the elevated section of the Lotterywest Federation Walkway are closed to pet dogs.
- Stay at least ten metres clear of playgrounds.
- Dogs are excluded during major events including Australia Day, New Year's Eve and Anzac Day, so check the events calendar before a public holiday visit.
- Bring your own waste bags, as none are provided in the park.
- Perth bushland holds snakes in the warmer months. Keep dogs on the path and on the lead.
- Paths and exposed lookouts get very hot in summer. Go early and carry water for your dog.
About Kings Park and Botanic Garden
Kings Park spreads across the escarpment above the Swan River, mixing formal botanic garden plantings with a large tract of retained bushland and long sealed paths. It is one of the few major botanic gardens in Australia that admits pet dogs at all, provided they stay on a lead of two metres or less. The exclusions are specific rather than general, so it pays to read them before you set off. Entry is free and the park is open daily, which makes it an easy first stop after a long drive into Perth.Which dogs it suits

The main Fraser Avenue precinct has wide sealed paths suited to prams and wheelchairs. Note that the elevated Federation Walkway, which is a key accessible route, is one of the sections closed to pet dogs.
