Directions

The rules, in short

Before you go

Dogs are welcome all year round, both on campsites and in designated dog friendly cabins, at no additional charge, with a maximum of two dogs per allocated dog friendly site. You must tell the park you are bringing a dog before you arrive, and failure to do so can mean the dog is refused. Dogs must be registered and have received the C3 vaccine. Dogs must be kept under effective control and must not be left unattended. Whenever a dog is outside the van, tent, annexe or cabin it must be on a lead held by someone who can manage it. At night dogs must be tied up or corralled in an enclosure they cannot escape. Dogs are not permitted in common areas unless park management says otherwise, and must not wander into other campsites. Dogs declared dangerous, menacing or of a restricted breed are banned. Cats and other animals are not permitted at all, only assistance animals.

On lead under effective control whenever outside your accommodation, and tied or corralled overnight. The authority also requires guests to follow council lead and time restrictions on the surrounding beaches.

Worth knowing before you arrive

  • Great Otway National Park prohibits pet dogs. Only assistance dogs may enter, so the famous Otways waterfall walks are closed to your dog.
  • Marengo Beach takes dogs on lead, but seasonal time limits apply over the summer holiday period. Check the current council signage at the access point on the day.
  • Dogs must not be left unattended, so day trips need to include them or a plan for someone to stay.
  • Restricted breed, declared dangerous and declared menacing dogs are refused entry under the authority's policy.
  • Cats are not permitted anywhere in the park.

About Marengo Family Caravan Park

Most caravan parks along the Great Ocean Road only take dogs outside the summer peak, which makes Marengo the exception worth knowing about. The Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority policy lists Marengo as welcoming dogs all year round, and the park's own page confirms dogs are fine on campsites and in its dog friendly cabins at no extra charge. Two dogs per booking is the limit, and the authority requires your dog to be registered and C3 vaccinated. Steps from the park lead onto Marengo Beach, which takes dogs on lead.

Small Medium Large Giant

Year round access on both sites and cabins, no pet fee, a published policy that answers the questions owners actually ask, and a dog friendly beach at the bottom of the steps. The only real constraint is the surrounding national park, which is not the park's doing.
