Worth knowing before you arrive

Outdoor areas only. Dogs cannot go into the bistro, bar or gaming rooms.
Palm Cove's beach is not a designated off-leash dog area, so do not assume you can continue to the sand off lead.
Far north Queensland marine stingers are present roughly October to May and crocodiles use the northern beaches coastline, so the sea is not a safe swim for dogs here.
Tropical heat. Ask for water and aim for a shaded table, especially in the build up.

About Palm Cove Tavern

A few streets back from the palm fringed Palm Cove esplanade, this is the local pub for Cairns' northern beaches, and it makes no secret of liking dogs. The tavern's own website calls itself a hot spot for local pooches and runs a proper doggy dine-in menu alongside the human one, which is a fair indicator that a dog at your table will not raise eyebrows. The draw for owners is the size of the outdoor area: a sprawling beer garden and alfresco dining space with room to tuck a large dog under the table without it becoming everyone's problem. It works well as the recovery stop after a northern beaches walk, particularly in the late afternoon once the heat has gone out of the day. Dogs belong in the outdoor areas, not the indoor bar, bistro or gaming rooms.
