Before you go

Council designates this a dog off leash area, permitted 24 hours a day, and the off leash area includes access to the adjacent tidal sand flats. Dogs must be leashed entering and leaving the area, stay within sight and under effective voice control, and there is a limit of four dogs per handler. Outside designated off leash areas dogs must be on leash, and council prohibits dogs on ocean and harbour beaches.

About Rowland Reserve Dog Off-leash Area

Rowland Reserve sits on the sheltered western shore of Pittwater, a long grassy foreshore strip beside the boat ramp on Pittwater Road. Northern Beaches Council has designated it an off leash area that runs around the clock, and the designation extends onto the tidal sand flats, so dogs get calm estuary water rather than surf. It is one of the few places in the local government area where a dog can legally get wet, because council prohibits dogs on ocean and harbour beaches entirely. At low tide the flats open up into a wide shallow apron that suits paddlers and older dogs as much as it does retrievers. Expect company, particularly weekend mornings, since this is one of the best known off leash spots on the peninsula.
